Biography
Luci Holland is a composer and musician who studied under Prof. Nigel Osborne and Prof. Peter Nelson at the University of Edinburgh. From a young age Luci has been fascinated with composition, the orchestra, and scoring to screen. Her first orchestral composition was completed and performed as a high school student, aged 17.
Throughout her University career Luci was active in a wide spectrum of musical exploits, recognised by The Eileen Cameron Music Prize, awarded to her in June 2010 for outstanding contribution to the musical life of the University and city community. Her versatility displays itself in her enjoyment in composing for a wide variety of projects, including her assisting operatic composer Julian Wagstaff on his work in 2007, writing and arranging music for several songwriters, and composing orchestral music by invitation for The Edinburgh University Sinfonietta 2010 spring concert. She is especially interested in film and games scores - in 2009 she was extremely privileged to attend a private composition workshop with film composer Ilan Eshkeri. She has worked as composer and music advisor for games software company Musemantik, and is the Compositional Assistant for the newly founded Edinburgh Film Music Orchestra. In 2011 she was accepted into the Edinburgh International Film Festival Composers' Minilab, a short course designed for composers who are interested in film to practise scoring for screen and discuss the industry with leading professionals.
More recently Luci was asked to take the role of Musical Director for the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group's 50th anniversary Edinburgh Fringe performance. The group ran a 13 day production of Sater and Sheik's rock musical Spring Awakening in the 2011 Fringe, which saw a near complete sell-out run, five star reviews, and high praise.
A keen oboist, Luci has enjoyed performing with a wide range of professional musicians and ensembles, such as Baroque ensemble Sospiro and the Edinburgh New Orchestra. In recent years she has also been invited to play with Making Music Scotland, the Rose Street Ensemble for the Watson Forbes Viola competition in November 2009, the Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the Edinburgh Composers' Orchestra. She has also played as 'guest hautbois' for the string-based rock band, Lipsync for a Lullaby.
Luci was selected through competitive process to attend the 2010 Atlantic Music Festival in Maine, US.
Currently Luci is working with an independent animator on a short film based on the Celtic Beltane mythology, entitled The Festival of Light.
